If there's anything that heralds the start of the Halloween season for me it's my annual run to Target to see the shelves and shelves of merchandise the great red bulls-eye in the sky has brought to us this year.

Class Picture Day? Halloween Ties!
I realize September is back to school time for many, so I'm going to use that as a loose excuse to TIE-in a post on Halloween TIES.
Get it?
It's a pun.
No? Nothin'?
... Well my Uncle Maury would have loved it.

Spider Web Topping
Whenever I see pictures of lattes with some design sketched in the foamy top, I'm amazed and perplexed.
That lasts for about half a second before I start drinking the magic brown juice that makes the headaches go away.

Costume Kudos: Homemade Tauntaun Costume
Scott Holden was a man with a dream.
A dream to build a life-size Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back Tauntaun costume with a Luke or Han rider.
And he did it.

Happy Halloween Tickets
I found these on Etsy. I don't know how I found them.
I don't even know what I would do with them.
But I like them.
They're "Happy Halloween Tickets/Embellishments" or at least that's what Seller AubreeLane has labeled them as.

LEGO Halloween Trick or Treat Buckets
Back when I was a kid, LEGO building blocks only came in one flavor: Happy Yellow People.
No scary pieces. No expressions on faces. And certainly no weapons.

Halloween 2 and Terror in the Aisles on Blu-Ray Today!
Out today on Blu-Ray is the Rick Rosenthal-Directed sequel to Halloween, er... Halloween II.
Certainly a great sequel to a classic horror film, the thing that has me really excited is the 2nd feature included on the disc that isn't even mentioned on the cover.

Creative Halloween Print Advertisements
Come Halloweentime I always get excited to see which companies will jump on-board the Halloween bandwagon and embrace the holiday in their advertising.
As crucial as *I* think Halloween is the reality is that, unless you're a company that sells candy or costumes, most businesses don't NEED to have their advertisements tie into the season.

Fright Rags LIMITED EDITION Trick 'r Treat Sam T-Shirt
A T-Shirt Tuesday post comes early!
I'll make this quick because the clock is already ticking...
Those fantastic folks at Fright Rags (alliteration!) have put out a limited edition t-shirt of a maskless Sam from Trick 'r Treat.
Encapsulating a moment towards the climax of the film, it could very well be my Halloween shirt of 2011. Wait. Yep. I just decided it is.
A paltry $25.95.
Won't be sold after 11:59pm ET Sunday the 11th.
Enough talk.
Go.
HERE.
Buy.

How to Use Volume to Maximize a Home Haunt Budget
Home Haunters, unlike their franchise or theme-park brethren, are usually working with limited space, budget and time.
One trick, that never seems to fail to impress, maximizes a small budget with high production value.
To quote from an old SNL sketch, the answer is simple: Volume.

Some Wonderful Uses of Duck Tape for Halloween
After posting yesterday's Duck Tape Jack o' Lantern Contest, I started poking around the Duck Tape website and found a number of postings of clever uses of Duck Tape for Halloween projects.
You wouldn't believe what people are making with this stuff.
Trick or Treat bags.
Costumes.
Decorations.
And... I kid you not: an entire Pirate Ship.

Duck Brand Tape "Stick or Treat" Jack O' Lantern Contest
If my grandfather taught me anything, it was this: "If you can't fix it, DUCK IT."That's a direct quote.
While this idiom can serve you well in most aspects of life, it has been missing from the simple act of pumpkin carving.
Until now.

Do You Steal Halloween Candy from Your Kids?
It happened to me.I'm sure it happened to you.
You were a kid. You came home from trick or treating--- a hard night's trick or treating, mind you--- and you dumped your loot on the kitchen table (this was the kid-equivalent of Scrooge McDuck doing the backstroke in his money).

Halloween Monster Nesting Dolls
Geez... who knew that I would find two, count 'em, TWO different sets of Halloween Nesting Dolls in the same year!
Check out my past post from March HERE on Monster Matryoshkas (the secret code word for Nesting Dolls).
This set is decidedly less graphic (as in "style") and much more traditionally painted (as in "traditionally painted"). The set features a witch, vampire, skeleton, ghost and all enclosed in a haunted tree with pumpkins around it.
Who knew? Nesting Dolls might be the new Halloween "thing." It makes sense. With all the downsizing these days, some may want to keep an entire Halloween scene in their desk drawer for easy transport and storage.
Maybe more Halloween decorations should "nest." I'd love to have an entire Halloween town set stack to the size of a grapefruit.
More importantly I want to know how that vampire exists in life with such huge fangs.
I mean, geez, look at the size of those things!
Head to Neatoshop.com HERE to pick up a set.

Yankee Candle Posts their 2011 Halloween Merch...
Boy we're just hitting September and already we've got a number of box stores touting their 2011 on-line Halloween wares. First out of the gate was Bath and Body Works with an ultra colorful line of cute-but-traditional votives, scents and more. Then came Z Gallerie's monochromatic skeletal offerings, today we're going to take a look at Yankee Candle's Halloween line.
