RECIPE: Scary Cerebrum Shrimp

You know me: I hate the gooey gross recipes... yet... they keep finding me.

And -ahem- I'm comfortable enough in my Halloweenhood to know when something is cool.  So here, dear readers who enjoy disgusting but somehow delicious Halloween recipes:   I give you Scary Cerebrum Shrimp.

Found over on Better Homes and Gardens (man those people are MESSED up) it's a recipe for constructing, what is basically, a shrimp cocktail shaped like a brain (I would actually add a little horseradish in the recipe to give it some zing).
I say this a lot but the recipe is BRILLIANT IN ITS' SIMPLICITY!

Put it out during your next viewing of Hannibal for a mix of sounds from wretching to "Ooooo delicious."
Also good for pulling a practical joke on a zombie.  "Ha HA!  It's not BRAINS.  It's SHRIMP!  Gotcha zombie!"
And then we'd run for our lives.
Laughing all the way.
Get the recipe HERE on Better Homes and Gardens.

Z Gallerie Posts 2011 Halloween Merch...

Z Gallerie has their Halloween merch up on their website and that's good news for those of us who window shop from the comfort of our easy chair.  They've made an interesting choice for theme this year-- sort of the antithesis of Bath and Body Works' 2011 Halloween line.

Whereas BBW had a very brightly colored pop sensibility, ZG has gone for a monochromatic color scheme of black, white and silver.

How to Build a Rotting Corpse in Half an Hour

If you've ever built a homemade yard haunt or professional Halloween maze, you know that sometime... eventually... you'll have to build corpses.
No matter what the theme is, skeletal zombie-like corpses eventually are needed... and usually you need more than one.

How to make a Sam from Trick 'r Treat Mask

If you've been reading Halloween Addict for some time, you know of my love affair with the film Trick 'r Treat (if not read about it HERE).

If there's one character from the film who has endeared himself to fans it's Sam, the mischievous child-like demon who ties the whole movie together-- a kind of "mute Crypt Keeper" of sorts.
To make a Sam costume for yourself (or a loved one) is quite a challenge as the rubber latex masks on the market being pushed as "Sam" masks just don't have the look that the burlap and button-eyed screen-used one does.

Well over on the forums on TheBurningLeaf.com, a member known as "Mojo" or "Katie" has made a pretty incredible replica of Sam and though it doesn't have explicit instructions, anyone worth their weight in crafting can probably pull one of these off after looking at the pics.

Sayyyyyy... What color IS Halloween?

What color is Halloween?

If that question were asked of me, my response would be "orange."

If pressed further and sat in front of a color chart, I could probably point to a specific shade of orange that might approximate the color of the jack o' lantern in the logo for this very website.
But I'd be wrong.

Grape Newts - Limited Edition Print by Jason Edmiston

As a kid I loved-- LOVED-- Wacky Packages.
A cross between Mad Magazine parody and baseball cards they were collectible cards that poked fun at various grocery store products.

Well kids grow into adults and those collectible cards made their way to the garbage (or eBay...).
So what's an adult with disposable income and blank walls to do to fill that 12-year-old void?

How about a framed print from a great illustrator from that very same Wacky Packages line?

"Best Worst Movie" gang wants to see how big a Halloween Addict you are!

Found this little nugget on Fangoria HERE, and after perusing the website I've now got all the details.

Magic Stone Productions (who brought you the documentary on Troll 2: "Best Worst Movie"... which if you haven't seen YOU MUST) are now working on a documentary for NBC Universal tentatively titled "Untitled Homemade Haunted House Feature Documentary."
(I told you it was tentatively titled...)

From the website:
"October 31 has always been the target for mischief, monsters and – above all – FUN. But  this dedication to Halloween mayhem isn’t just carried out by costumed children and prank-crazed teens. From the suburbs to the cities, there’s a tremendous world of devoted adults who spend the better part of each year transforming their homes into spine-tingling, heart-stopping Houses of Horror… or at least they give it their best shot. Beyond all the fog machines, plastic fangs, fake blood, coffins and cobwebs, there's a story about passionate die-hards who live to scare."
So here it is folks.  Be in a doc on how big a Halloween Addict you are.
Go HERE to HomeMadeHaunt.com and find the online submission form.
Tell 'em Halloween Addict sent ya.
That and 50 cents will get you a steaming cup o' NOTHIN'.

Art Lebedev Studio - Bat Clothespins and the Pie Plate o' Lantern!

I normally try and profile Halloween products that are available for purchase in some way.  Because I know that when I discover something awesome, and then realize it's a "prototype" or "design only" ---it's a real let-down.

I've been sitting on this one particular item from Art Lebedev Studios for over 5 years now, in the hopes that it would some day go into production but, alas, that day has yet to come.

BUT------I DID find another thing that IS available for purchase that Halloween Addicts will enjoy... sooooooo I'm bending my own rule and here we go.
