Top 10 Celebrities with the Most Halloween Spirit

Celebrities.
They're all over the place:  on your TV, in your check-out aisle and tweetin' on your Twitter-machine.

Sure many go to parties and still more put on costumes, but which celebrities have the most "Halloween Spirit?"

That's right:  "Halloween Spirit"---a phrase I'll define as 'the ability and desire to embrace the Halloween holiday in such a way to make it noteworthy.'
Just because, say for example, Kendra Wilkinson puts on a sexy gangster costume and is photographed at a Hollywood Halloween party, does not mean she's got "Halloween Spirit."

The only rule I had was that the person couldn't be deceased (or else I'd include Bob Hope).
So here they are.
The Top 10 Celebrities with the Most Halloween Spirit.
The numerical rundown doesn't mean much unless you're "Number 1."
Then you're a winner.

10.  ELLEN DEGENERES

Those who watch Ellen's Warner Bros. show know that not only does she thoroughly dress up herself, her set and her audience every October for Halloween, but more importantly she LOVES scaring people.  LOVES IT.  As THIS montage can attest.
You haven't lived until you've seen Mario Lopez in his fight-or-flight stance.
It's not blood and guts scary, either, but good-natured "Boogey boogey!"-scaring with tons of laughter afterward.
Then again being roared at by a man in a giant dog-mascot costume could make me lose control of my bodily functions in the right conditions.
After all, I've seen Kubrick's The Shining

9.  ROSEANNE

Roseanne?!
Barr?!
Sure she doesn't always make the best choices (Tom Arnold, She-Devil, that Snickers commercial) but when she had her show, Roseanne, she was hitting it out of the park with Halloween episodes.  The show ran 9 years and of those she had a Halloween episode from Seasons 2 through 9.

The Conner Family embraced Halloween by decorating their house for the season and playing tricks on one another.
Just like Halloween should be.

8.  ALICE COOPER

He was the original shock rocker who welcomed us to his nightmare and he even let us know he was keeping Halloween alive, 3-6-5:  Alice Cooper has Halloween spirit.

He pioneered the way for Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, Slip Knot, Wednesday 13, among others, by incorporating a macabre stage show into his concerts including guillotines, giant spiders and boa constrictors. He currently does concerts in London, when?
On Halloween.

He also has ties to the "Big 3" horror movie franchises.
First he performed the song "He's Back (The Man Behind the Mask)" that appears in Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives; then he played Freddy Krueger's father in the "final" sequel to A Nightmare on Elm StreetFreddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare; and lastly he's worked with the creator of Michael Myers and Halloween, John Carpenter, appearing in the film Prince of Darkness.

The final nail in the coffin (zing!) of Halloween Spirit is his release of the Halloween anthem "Keepin' Halloween Alive" back in 2009.
The defense rests, Your Honor.

7.  MARTHA STEWART

She's Queen Crafty.  And come Halloweentime, she delivers.
Martha Stewart releases a specific Halloween-themed magazine every year for which she gets gussied up in some elaborate costume for the cover.
Her website MarthaStewart.com has a specific Halloween-holiday section loaded with tips on carving pumpkins, ways to decorate, costumes to make --and more, more, more.

Lastly:  the Halloween ideas in these magazines, TV shows and web pages... are GOOD.  We all read 'em.  We all gawk at 'em.  We all try to either mimic them or one-up them.  She's a Halloween inspiration.

6.  KIM KARDASHIAN

Kim Kardashian has single-handedly cornered the market for wearing sexy costumes.  She's an inspiration to budding slutty-nurse-nun-cop-superheros everywhere (and you can put THAT on the box with the fine print "Cleavage not included.").

So far Kim has flaunted the following sexy costumes on red carpet press events everywhere:  Sexy Red Riding Hood, Sexy Wonder Woman, Sexy Princess Jasmine, Sexy Snow White, Sexy Flapper, Sexy Leopard... you know what?  I can't type "sexy" anymore.
She knows what she's got, and she knows how to use it.

But it doesn't stop there, Kim likes Halloween so much that she'll tweet pics of her various costume choices to her fans to get opinions on that year's costume choice.
Though many will think it's all for attention, according to her website HERE, Kim's infatuation with Halloween runs through her whole family.  Check out her GALLERY HERE to see various shots of a very young Kim and family dressed in costumes, the house decorated with a skull-laden dinner table and of course, Kim in many, many sexy costumes.
Crap, there's that word again.

5.  ELVIRA: MISTRESS OF THE DARK

She wasn't the first female horror hostess, but she IS the BEST female horror hostess.  The expression "household name" is thrown around for everything from floor wax to automobiles, but you say "Elvira" and people know you're talking about the buxom, raven-haired beauty with a quick wit.

Elvira (Cassandra Peterson) has appeared in more television Halloween episodes than any other horror host with guest stints through the '80s and '90s on shows like CHiPs, The Fall Guy, and even into the 2000's (the 'oughts?') this year on the new Tim Allen vehicle Last Man Standing.  She even had her own TV Halloween Special in 1986 titled "Elvira's Halloween Special."  (clever)
She has action figures, trading cards, Halloween decorations, her own mass-market costume and was even the Halloween spokesperson for Coors Light "The Official Beer of Halloween."
Elvira lives and breathes Halloween and the holiday wouldn't be the same without her.

4.  THE SIMPSONS

I can hear the cries now: "They're not even real people!"
To which I say:  Aren't they?

Voice actors Dan Castellaneta, Yeardley Smith, Nancy Cartwright, Julie Kavner not to mention Hank Azaria and Harry Shearer have been playing the same characters for over 20 years.  That's a feat unto itself.

We Halloween Addicts all mourn the death of the Halloween special.
"Where are the Garfields, Fat Alberts, Charlie Browns,  Halloween Treats and Paul Lyndes of today?" we cry.
Wait:  they're right here in America's favorite yellow family.

The Simpsons has been giving us a NEW Halloween special (Treehouse of Horror) EVERY year for 22 years!
Name one other show that's done such a thing.
I can tell you, you will not find it.
Seriously, stop looking.
No, stop it.
You're not going to find it, so stop.
There will come a time when this show ends --shudder-- but until that day happens, we will continue to enjoy this wonderful series and its consistent Halloween specials as long as they're made.

3.  TIM ALLEN

More cries of "What??!?!?!"
Tim Allen is the Yang to Roseanne's Ying.
The connections aren't just that they were both stand-up comics who got their own hit TV series, but they also had sitcoms that had a consistent Halloween special for years in a row.

Home Improvement ran for 8 seasons and had a Halloween episode in 7 of those seasons... tying Roseanne.  Tim's character, er--"Tim"-- wore costumes, did DIY Halloween projects, decorated and wore elaborate costumes.  As someone who called the shots on his own show, you can't tell me that Tim doesn't have Halloween spirit.

On top of that (and as mentioned in number 5) Tim's new show Last Man Standing has a Halloween episode and who did he invite to play along?  Fellow Halloween-Spirit-filled celeb:  Elvira.
To infinity and beyond, indeed.

2.  DITA VON TEESE

I'm pulling a little dispy-doodle on you here.
Dita Von Teese is known for her outrageous and outlandish modeling in fetishwear.  Vinyl, leather, chains, burlesque etc.  She wears daily the stuff that most 20 somethings think will be fun to try out on Halloween eve.

So what does this striking vixen wear on Halloween?
Normal clothes.
Every year, Dita dresses as a "normal girl" to blend in (see the pic left if you don't believe me).  It's sorta like Hellboy being able to walk around freely on All Hallows Eve.

You can read all about her reasons in THIS ARTICLE HERE

The choice to blend in on a night when anything goes is a ballsy move and is really the ultimate costume for the ultimate beauty.

Well here we are.  Who will it be?  Who will be the NUMBER ONE CELEBRITY WITH THE MOST HALLOWEEN SPIRIT?

1. HEIDI KLUM

Supermodel.  Businsess Woman.  Television Personality.  Halloween Addict.
Heidi Klum is the celebrity with the most Halloween Spirit.
Why?

Well first of all, she has HUGE, elaborate Halloween parties that Hollywood beats a path to her door to go to.

Second:  she and her husband, Seal, wear elaborate costumes to these parties.  Now let me clarify: these aren't those lame couples costumes like "Ketchup and Mustard" or "Plug and Outlet."  These are detailed think-out-of-the-box costumes like robotic superheroes, feathered ravens and even Eve and the Apple (she DIDN'T play Eve).

Third:  She's A SUPERMODEL but doesn't default to a sexy-nun-cop-nurse costume.  She takes risks.  She once went as an eight-armed, blue Hindu goddess Kali. (I wonder if she ever ran into a dude dressed as Indiana Jones while wearing that costume.  And if so, I wonder if that dude said "Prepare to meet Kali... IN HELL!"  These are the things I think of sitting in traffic.)

I'm not saying she hasn't had sexy costumes and flaunted her model-ness... check out THIS GALLERY HERE to see her in everything from a sexy goth vampire to Betty Boop.

Fourth:  She's always consulted by media around Halloween to give costume advice.  MSN tapped her HERE for her 'Top 10 Costume Ideas,' and Stylelist.com hit her up HERE for her 'Top Picks for Couples and Kids.  And the advice:  is GOOD.  She encourages people to get out of their comfort zones.   Preach it, sister.

Lastly:  We all grew up with Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF.
The 61-year-old program has raised millions and millions of dollars for lifesaving programs worldwide.  So when UNICEF picked an Ambassador for the program in 2011, who did they turn to?
Heidi Klum.

To me, this is a title she deserves and I can't think of someone better for the role.

Nice list. Lot's of interesting factoids. I loved watching Home Improvements for the Halloween Specials.

Great choices! And an awesome list, one I haven't seen already this year, so bonus point for thinking out of the box yourself!

I am probably alone here in my thinking that Roseanne is the only really decent halloweener on the list.

Elvira is a close second, but I've seen her act like kind of a jerk outside of the gimmick. Plus she ripped off Maila Nurmi's shtick.

But then, they're celebrities. You've gotta have soul to do Halloween right.

wicKED: I find that seeing the Halloween special of any TV show is like catching a "best of" episode.

Joe: I'm trying to give something you won't get anywhere else. Good to know I still can do some out of the box thinkin'.

Mantan: What celebs would you put on the list? (Maybe I'll do another next year?)

I'm a sucker for a good top 10 list so you really had me when I first read the title of this article. Great choices btw. I would be interested to see your list of the Top 10 celebrities with Halloween Spirit (deceased edition)as well. I'm curious as to who would join Bob Hope on that list.
