How do I pick?
Knowing I go for "fruity" flavors over "chocolate" helped tilt the scales a bit.
Then I started judging on packaging.
No matter how big the candy bag was, if the company didn't make the effort to put something Halloweeny on the bag, they weren't getting my money.
Finally, I leaned toward a "monster green" bag with cartoony images of Dracula, Frankenstein and The Mummy.
"LifeSavers Gummies Spooky Shapes."
Mmmkay. We'll try those.
To continue to talk about the packaging for a moment, the green bag with the purple accents really helped it stand out from the sea of orange and black on the candy shelves. So good job on that LifeSavers.
In addition to the previously mentioned monsters, they were also nice enough to put a full moon with bats and drawn versions of the gummies themselves: a jack o' lantern, a screeching cat and a spooky tree. Also a good idea to include those so you can tell what they are, but more on that later.Once you get into the bag, the treat sized bags are green also with a big ogre-ish Frankenstein's monster staring at you on the front. It looks good. I can only imagine that the little green bags will stand out in a trick or treat loot poured on a kitchen table too.
The back of the little bag again shows you what the gummies are supposed to be and puts the various flavors too. I like all this info as it's clear, concise and easy to read.
More importantly, it adds to the Halloween candy experience. I like pulling a gummy out of the bag comparing the shape to the shapes included and then tasting it. Then looking on the bag to see which flavor I just had.
As for the gummies themselves, take a look at the pic. The scanner doesn't do it justice, but there really are color variances in each gummy. Some are more red. Some more purple. Some an orange-red.
As for detail: some gummies had very crisp details and others were a bit mooshy. Before I checked the bag, I was convinced one of the shapes was a witch. Upon comparison, I found out I was looking at a spooky tree. Whoops.
The flavors are pretty different: Watermelon, Green Apple, Strawberry, Blackberry and Cherry.
I think the most original flavor was Blackberry. It's really fruity and refreshing.
Watermelon is pretty standard, artificial watermelon. That's not to say it's bad. It's just standard.
Least favorite: cherry.
You do only get 9 pieces in the treat sized bags. I think that's just enough for a "trick or treater" size.
Bottom line: these are good. But there's two types of gummies in the world: there are gummy-bear-like gummies and there are "fruit snack-like" gummies. These are definitely the latter, while I'm a liker of the former.
So for flavor: A.
For texture: C (if you're a gummy bear), B+ (if you're a fruit snack)
Packaging: A
Overall presentation: A
