AMC's Fearfest is Back in Full Swing

October continues to sail along and I almost forgot to tip off those who may not know that AMC's Fearfest is back in full swing!

2011 marks the 3rd year of Fearfest and if you count AMC's previously titled "Monsterfest" then that anniversary number kicks up to 14!

As someone who has watched both versions of the horror and monster movie marathons over the years I can say that the AMC horror movie marathon has become a welcome and regular part of my Halloween festivities.  In some respects, the season feels like it's in full swing once the AMC slogan goes from "Story Matters Here" to "GORY matters here."

The Fearfest marathon has certainly benefited both last year and this year since the debut of The Walking Dead television series.  Did you miss the 1 1/2 hour premiere of Season 2 last Sunday? (I did!)
Well fear not (no pun intended) as it's available via free streaming on the AMC site.
Go HERE, watch and catch up before it comes down.

As for the schedule this year, your host is none other than George "Grandaddy of Zombies" Romero and he's got little info nuggets and intros to a decent line-up including including the world television premiere of Romero’s own Survival of the Dead.

There are over 60 movies airing between October 16 and October 31st but here are the 'primetime premieres':
  • The World Television Premiere of Survival of the Dead debuting October 17, 8pm ET
  • Diary of the Dead debuting October 18, 8pm ET
  • The Hills Have Eyes (remake) debuting October 18, 10pm ET
  • Flight of the Living Dead: Outbreak on a Plane debuting October 19, 8pm ET
  • Slither debuting October 20, 8pm ET
  • From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money debuting October 22, 10:15pm ET
  • From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman's Daughter debuting October 22, 12:15am ET
  • Halloween H2O: 20 Years Later debuting October 28, 8pm ET
Also worth noting are Night of the Living Dead (1968), The Fly (1958 & 1986), Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh (1995), Bride of Frankenstein (1932), The Omen (1976), White Noise (2005), Scream 3 (2000), Cujo (1983), Resident Evil (2002), Halloween (1978) and more.

Sure there will be its detractors who say it's the "same old movies" but I will trumpet that it's like a Vegas all-you-can-eat buffet of horror movies.  You can have the sliced prime rib (Night of the Living Dead '68)... you can just get mounds of mac and cheese (Flight of the Living Dead)... or you can pile up your plate with various foods (The Fly '86, Halloween H20, Scream 3) and come back for more.
There's something to be said for the serendipity of turning on the TV and catching up with an old favorite or a film you haven't seen in some time.

Plus, because it's television, I also get to see the latest crop of Halloween COMMERCIALS.  What are those M and Ms up to this year?  What are the popular costumes Kmart is hawking?  They're as much a part of the season as the Sunday color flyers that I put down before carving a pumpkin.

Why is Halloween 2 not being played. I don't get it. 3 (the worst one) is being played, but not 2????
