UPDATED: Kooky Kans from Mixo!

What do you get when you cross the nostalgia of tin lunchboxes with the fun of collecting action figures?

Two words:  Kooky Kans.

While perusing the booths from this year's San Diego Comic Con, I happened upon the Mixo booth.  There, lined up neatly on the shelves, were all the Kooky Kan faces.  Monsters.  Superheroes.  Er, Smurfs.  I was in awe.
What were they?  What's in them?  Why do they look so cool?

Questions!

Looking for answers, I contacted the Kooky powers-that-be at the Mixo.com website and got sent a set of the Monsters for review.
I need to tell the world about this product... because I'm in love with it.

The set of Kooky Kans I was drawn to of course were the "Mixo Monsters" of which there are four:  Frankenstein's Monster, Dracula, Mummy and Skeleton.

They had me at Skeleton.

Each can measures approximately 8" tall (See?  I put a ruler in the pic!) and are a sturdy feeling metal.  The allusion to them being like tin luncboxes is true.  They really feel like a cylindrical lunchbox.
As for what's inside the Kooky Kans (my review versions were empty)---according to the website--- they contain either Mixo candy or Kookycraft.

Kookycraft?

Kookycraft is sort of a mix of a playset, origami and breakfast cereal box cut-outs.

Check out the pic as an example:  Dracula would normally come with a Dragula-like roadster, graveyard and full moon backdrop.  Pretty awesome.

These are so perfect for Halloween gifts, I can hardly contain myself.  You can Pre-Order them HERE at the BigBadToyStore.com website.  (Going through the Mixo.com website currently takes you that route too, I was just giving you a short cut).
Each Kooky Kan will run you only $9.99.

Though they're debuting this month with the Halloween-themed monsters, according to the website there are more characters to come.

Of interest to the Halloween Addict are the "Mixo Maniacs," specifically the Zombie.  Never has a rotting corpse looked so adorable... even with the sagging eye and exposed ribs.

The other set I'm super excited about is the Mixo Ghostbusters.

What's that??!!

Yep.  There they are on the site.  Venkman.  Egon.  Stantz.  And... um... Ernie Hudson-er... guy.
There's also Smurfs, Hello Kitty, DC Comics... check it out and salivate.

I love Mixo's Kooky Kans.
I want to throw a Universal Monsters party and give them out as parting gifts.
I wish I could buy one for every trick or treater who shows up this Halloween.
You want to be the "cool house" to the kids in the neighborhood?
You give out Kooky Kans.
You'll be LEGENDARY.

I really hope they do well because my character wish list is building up.
How about Jason, Freddy, Michael and Leatherface?
Call it the "Kooky Killers" set.  (Unfortunately they already used "Mixo Maniacs.")
How about a Halloween-specific set?
A slightly scarier skeleton, scarecrow, jack o' lantern (on a tall vine) and ghost.

My last two cents:  I gotta tell ya, for this to be a jackpot present I think it would need BOTH the candy AND the Kooky Kraft.
If I were a kid (or an adult who's a kid at heart) and I received a Kooky Kan with both items, I'd pop open the can, dump the candy and get to work building the playset.
THAT... my friends, is what I call an "afternoon."

UPDATED:   For those of you who don't read the comments, Reis O'Brien, one of the designers of the Kooky Kans, sounded off with the future of the line:

"Thanks for the "killer" write up!

I'm Reis O'Brien, the designer (working closely with Funko founder, Mike Becker) of the Mixo Kookycans. Just to comment on a few of your points:

A series of horror movie legends is in the concept stages with Freddy, Jason and we're even talking about a Beetlejuice! So keep your fingers crossed.

We are also talking about a Halloween series for 2012 done in a classic orange, yellow and black look. We're thinking of doing a new skeleton, jack-o-lantern/headless horseman, black cat and witch.

And ask and you shall receive! All Mixo Kookycans (arriving in stores very soon) will include BOTH the candy and Kookycrafts.

So, you heard it here first!

Again, thanks for the kind words and we'll keep you posted.

Love the blog, by the way. ;)"
Thank YOU Reis!
We love you back... in a platonic "please make more monster Kooky Kans"-sort-of-way.
