Costume Kudos: Homemade Tauntaun Costume

Scott Holden was a man with a dream.

A dream to build a life-size Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back Tauntaun costume with a Luke or Han rider.

And he did it.

This is probably "old news" as far as the wide wide world o' webs goes, but it's new to me, and gall-darnit, I think it's awesome.

A life-size tauntaun costume?  Seriously?
Yes.
Seriously.
"But how did he do it?" you ask.
Well, you can read all about it on Scott Holden's website HERE, complete with pics that take you step by step through the whole process.

Fair warning:  if you think this is something you can churn out in an afternoon, you are mistaken.

The whole process involved months of work and involved homemade silicone molds, trips to a fabric store, PVC pipe skeletons, welding stilts and more.
It was all worth it as the pictures show or you can even see a video HERE to watch it in action.

If you're the type that likes "Special Features" on your DVDs, you can go a little further down the rabbit hole by reading Scott's Q&A page HERE, and a "How to Make a Cheap Silicone Mold..." HERE.

Now as much as what I think Scott has done is awesome... I have two minor changes I would make:
1)  I would be Han Solo instead of Luke Skywalker.
(I mean, c'mon... Han has ALWAYS been cooler than Luke.)

2)  I would hire a friend to dress as a Rebel in Hoth gear and constantly yell at me, "Your tauntaun will freeze before you reach the first marker!"
To which I would reply in my best Harrison Ford growl "Then I'll see you in hell.  YAH!

Bravo, Mr. Holden.

Illusion Ollie Ostrich Adult Costume   P.S.  How come no one has made an official Lucasfilm-licensed Tauntaun costume using the same idea as THESE "Walking Illusion" costumes.
I'm looking at YOU ThinkGeek.com
