Sometimes it's the simplest thing that makes me happy.
Like these.
Potato ghosts.
They're ghosts.
Made of potatoes.
Potato ghosts.
In a world of Halloween cooking and recipes that runs the gamut from simple with a jack o' lantern twist, to extremely gross (but probably tasty), sometimes making a comfort-food staple spooky is all you need on a cold October night.
Click HERE on the Gourmet.com site for the recipe, or just take the idea and run with it.
Here's what you need to know: caraway seeds for eyes... toast the tops a bit.
You think they're cute, but imagine this: you wake up in the middle of the night hungry.
You walk downstairs to the kitchen, but the overhead light doesn't work.
Your eyes focus and you can see by the moonlight spilling in through the window the outline of hundreds of potato ghosts lined up like in the picture.
Terrifying right?
Orrrrrrr DELICIOUS?
[thunder clap]
[maniacal laughter]

If only we could figure out a way to (safely) make them glow in the dark and still be edible. How cool would that be?
Great post!!!
I love potatoes.....definitely going to give this a try. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers!
Haha! When I first saw this photo, I thought someone had painted eyes on their fingers!
I love these! I attempted them last year. Except mine came out looking more like the Michelin Man than ghosts. :)
Necropolis: Mmmmm glow in the daaaark. Surely some scientist should be working on glow in the dark food, right? Wonka maybe?
Frog Queen: You're welcome.
Justine: EDIBLE fingers with painted eyes!
Spirit: HA! I would love to see pics of those. You know, if you put hats on them you could probably fudge "Mr. Stay Puft."
