LED Lightup Ice Cube Pumpkin Jack o' Lanterns

I go back and forth on my love/hate with light up ice cubes.

On the one hand... glowing beverages you can drink are AWESOME. They provide mood, fun, light and they don't water down your drink.

On the other hand, you have a cold chunk of plastic floating in your glass: intrusive, clunky and you can't just throw them on the lawn to dissolve in the night.

Still, you can use them for more than just lighting up your libations. Just look at how cool they look perched on a spooky black tea-light tree sculpture.

WowCoolStuff.com has these LED Light Up Ice Cube Pumpkin Jack o' Lanterns. Or... they DID. The website says they're sold out, but I'm betting that come September/October they'll magically be in stock again. Bookmark it for later.

OR head over to LogoGlow.com where you can order them in lots of 100 for just $2.64 apiece. C'mon... for $264 you could line your entire front porch with these tiny grinning orange visages.
You know what impresses?
VOLUME.

Friday, February 13th - Friday the 13th Remake Released

Well the day has come.
Friday the 13th.
What to do... what to do... ?

I KNOW!
Why not check out the new Friday the 13th remake from Platinum Dunes on the big screen today?!!

Well, thank you, I WILL.

As I've mentioned in other posts, I grew up on the F13 films.
Lots of trips to the video store.
Lots of rentals and re-rentals of the classics.
But the only ones I've seen in an ACTUAL theater, on the big screen, have been Jason X and Freddy Vs. Jason.
Whereas I enjoyed F Vs. J for what it was, Jason X certainly left me... er... saddened.

So the fact that I get to see a Friday the 13th (NOT a New Line owned "Jason" movie) on the big screen is an accomplishment in itself. But I also get to watch it ON FRIDAY THE 13TH.
Fantastic.
Now, don't get me wrong, I LOVE the originals. But my favorites have always been Part 3 and upward.
Why?
The hockey mask.
So I'm excited to see how they cram parts 1, 2 and 3 into one movie.
PLUS: as the trailer has show us... Jason RUNS. Why--- we haven't seen such an advancement since zombies started---er, running.
THAT'S new.
THAT'S a way to make Jason scarier.
I'm listening, Platinum Dunes. I'm listening.

Now remember: all those who have already lit their torches, assembled an angry mob and are prepared to hate and picket and firebomb such a movie on principle... REMEMBER--- those classics are still there. They don't take them and throw them in the garbage when they remake them.
You can still watch them whenever you want.
In FACT, it took a remake being released for us to get 3 brand new DVD transfers of the first 3 films.
Part 3 in 3D with 3D glasses!
Part 1 UNCUT.
Wonderful. We have an embarrassment of horror riches, my friends.

So get out there and support. Who knows how soon we'll see our hockey masked friend in theaters again?

Costume Idea: Green Army Man

Here at HalloweenAddict.com, we appreciate the dedication in coming up with and executing a good Halloween costume.

Anyone can buy a bagged costume and though it was cool when you were a kid and you wore the latest Ben Cooper vinyl masterpiece... there is an uncool laziness associated with people who just buy the prepackaged and go.

It's quite another thing to come up with the idea, plan, build and paint... and wear it well.

So I'd like to share with you this simple but brilliant costume: The Green Toy Army Man.

I've linked HERE to where the pictures came from, but there are no "How to" instructions to be found. Though, any person with half a brain can figure out what was done here.
Again, it's not the complexity of the costume, it's the brilliance of the simplicity.
A plastic tarp-like shell and pants... boots... helmet... toy M-16... a lot of the same shade of green paint and face-paint.... and boom--- Perfect.

I'll even give props to THIS guy, who made his own Army Man costume for trick or treating with his kids.
Sure it doesn't look quite as cool as M-16 guy... but he put some serious effort into it.

Per his Flickr page HERE he gives a recipe and the effort that went into his costume:
"... with like 10 cans of spray paint, so the color was all uniform (the picture doesn't do it justice). Carried the wooden base, house by house, and threw it down then got in position, before letting the kids ring the bell or knock on the door. People loved this costume..."
Of COURSE people loved this costume, Mike! You know why? You made the effort!
You even came up with a less messy way to make your skin green: Green pantyhose. I'm sure the camera flash makes it look washed bout, but in the dark I believe you were green.

Carrying a wooden base house to house, then posing before the kids ring the doorbell?
Fantastic.
TWO handfuls of candy for you, sir!

Mike also made some design choices the M-16 guy is missing.
1) He chose to be bazooka guy. A good costume is defined by choices. Good job Bazooka Guy.

2) A good costume is also defined by the details. He chose to include the plastic foot stand. Remember when you got the bazooka guy that had the stand? That sort of toy revolution blew your 8 year old mind.

And for those lazy bones who wonder "That's cool... I wonder if it comes in a bagged version."
It does.
Check out its lameness HERE. Or just compare the pictures.
If you showed up wearing the bagged version and bumped into THIS guy wearing the homemade cool version... how would you look?
That's right.
Like the TAN Army guy.
Blech. TAN.
THAT guy is LAME.

October Toys: Zombie Army Men and Jack o' Lantern Penguins... oh my...

I found this site thanks to the wonderful blog Geektarded and knew immediately I would like the products from this company.
Why?
Because they have a jack o' lantern in their logo and their site is called OctoberToys.com.
I mean c'mon. How can a Halloween Addict NOT like it?

Still not convinced how awesome October Toys are? Well here are my two favorite products:

1) Z.O.M.B.I.E.s:
An acronym technically standing for "Zillions of mutating bodies infecting everyone." Nice job. How fun was it to come up with that?
What they are: Plastic zombies in-scale with army men so you can pit your favorite rifleman, mortar guy and bazooka guy against a wave of the undead. Just protect that mine sweeper guy! He's going to get his brains eaten with no weapon and headphones on!

As if that's not enough they come in 4 colors: mutated Toxic Avenger-like green, pale Dawn of the Dead-like blue, ghostly white and glow-in-the-dark.
I think we all know which set I'll be buying. That's right. And why? "Because glow in the dark stuff rocks." That's right.

2) Gwins:
Take a Linux "Tux" mascot-like penguin and paint it to look like a giant black squid devouring an orange scary jack 0' lantern. I say: yes please. More please.
On top of that it was designed by effects maven/artist "Voltaire." How cool is THAT?
Not familiar with Voltaire's work? Check out this Halloween-themed short courtesy of the You of Tubes:

"His Name Was Jason: 30 Years of Friday the 13th" DVD Doc Drops Today

The ramp up continues to the Platinum Dunes remake of Friday the 13th next --what else-- Friday the 13th.

Dropping today is the 2 Disc DVD documentary "His Name Was Jason: 30 Years of Friday the 13th." As someone who really enjoyed the hardcover tome "Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th," this seems to be the truncated, watchable version of that book. You know... for people who can't read.

I'm very excited to check out this set as every other horror site has said it's a good primer for those who've never seen the films and a fun watch for those who know all the stories already.

Here's the formal, product overview from Amazon:

Jason Voorhees has carved his place into American pop culture and is one of the most recognizable cinematic killers in horror history. Now nearly, 30 years later, see how it all happened! Shut off the lights, lock up the cabin and get ready to learn all about a boy... His Name Was Jason.

HIS NAME WAS JASON: 30 YEARS OF FRIDAY THE 13TH is a two disc set loaded with over 4 hours of bonus material. This film is a behind the scenes look at the franchise that broke horror box office records and made Jason a pop culture icon. With over 80 interviews from the cast and crew of the Friday the 13th film franchise, including the new Friday the 13th film, these firsthand accounts of never-before-told stories and rare behind the scenes photographs offer the ultimate look at the history of FRIDAY THE 13TH!
